And so it begins..
Finally, the twist we’ve been waiting for is here. This episode is basically a trip down memory lane (aka Hiro’s Spirit Walk). Like previous such episodes in the series, this flashback looks at how the people we know came about the situaton they’re in. Given that one of the most important characters got introdued two episodes back, we begin with Arthur Petrelli.
And right from the offset, we see that back in the day 18 months ago, he was ready to kill Nathan should he get in his way.
What surprised me in this flashback was Sylar’s backstory with none other than Elle! The shocker came when Sylar decided to commit suicide after his first kill. Elle comes out of nowhere was following him (as an agent of The Company)…
I was actually enjoying this side story, trying to figure out how things would tie up when Elle eventually betrays Sylar.
What I thought to be the filler segment of this episode was…
Why was this included? Nobody cares much about Meredith except that she’s a brilliant MILF. Her story is pretty much non-existent and her character seems like a necessity for the sheer purpose of complicating Claire’s life even more. Anyways, she gets caught by The Company and they force her to work as an agent for them.
Back with the loving father who wants to kill his son, we see Nathan blame Linderman (and Arthur) for that “accident”.
Despite his denial in having a hand in this attack on Nathan, Angela…
Cut back to Elle, who is reluctant to see Sylar become evil, get’s a good lecture from…
Funny to see how his quest to turn Sylar on the wrong path came back and bit him in the ass.
Back to the Petrelli’s, once Angela finds out the truth about Arthur, her…
Linderman, however, was foolish smart enough to…
…and watch Arthur getting murdered put on bed by his own wife.
…”Yes dear, I added a dash of poison to spice things up”.
After betraying The Company…
…once she finds out her baby, aka emo queen Claire, wasn’t killed. Wait what?
Back to things that actually matter Sylar and company, a wonderful dinner with Elle gets ruined when she invites…
Things go down just as Mr. Bennett planned when Sylar gets jealous and the ‘hunger for power’ returns. And Elle’s betrayal was taken surprisingly well by Sylar. Like meh. Eventually Elle saw…
…and made The company proud.
Back to the man who didn’t die, we finally see the beginnings of…
…and his Crusade against Angela and all those who opposed him. Personally, I like Arthur. He’s a compassionate man who’s persona oozes confidence and professionalism. There is a decisiveness in his eyes which screams ‘I’ll pwn you n00bs!’
Overall, the story didn’t progress much, and characters weren’t as fleshed out as I hoped. Still, it was nice to see how this flashback episode neatly tied into the existing stories of all the different people.
And on that note…
