Bleach Episode 198 Review

Mayuri’s Trap

Bleach returns this week with Byakuya unleashing his sword’s ability on Zommari. The attack was great enough to cause damage to the environments and it meant certain death for Zommari. But Zommari survives, by wrapping himself in a ball-like shape. Zommari then attacks, but his attack is futile as Byakuya creates a barrier with his kidou. Byakuya reveals that Zommari’s ability is akin to kidou. Having already discovered that, Byakuya quickly dispatches him. He also says that the reason he couldn’t forgive him and killed him was because he pointed his blade at his pride, his sister.

Elsewhere, Mayuri and Szayel have begun fighting. Initially, Mayuri is unable to stand up against Szayel, as Szayel hadcaught him in his technique, and was destroying his organs gradually. Even Mayuri’s vice-captain, Nemu, was affected badly. Szayel not only destroys his organs, but his muscle tendons as well. Suddenly, Mayuri gets up and makes a joke about this situation. Szayel is unable to comprehend as to why Mayuri could stand up after so much toture. He then continues to break his organs and knows that the ability is working, but it still does not affect Mayuri.

He reveals that he has made himself immune to Szayel’s ability by replacing all the organs in his body. He learned about the ability from bacteria he implanted in Uryuu, when he had last fought him in Soul Society. He then activates his bankai, poisoning Szayel. The poison kills everything that crosses in its path. Szayel tries to make an antidote to save himself from the poison. Despite his efforts, Mayuri’s bankai swallows Szayel.

Overall, this week’s episode of Bleach was far better than last week’s mediocre display. The plot progressed slowly, but was enough to hold the viewers interest. Byakuya’s fight with Zommari has finally ended, which is a good thing considering it wasn’t one of the greatest. Mayuri’s fight is far more interesting, solely due to Mayuri’s character. Mayuri’s strength is showcased pretty decently in this episode.

Animation quality was still below standard considering this is Bleach. But, the music of this episode was great, which helped amp up the intensity of this episode. The opening and ending theme remained the same, but the opening video had changed last week, showing the new Bleach movie clips.

And on that note,

Sorry, but your best bet would be to get the Soundtrack. Specifically knowing what song was playing in that episode which we covered half a year ago is unreasonable. Perhaps some Bleach forums would be more helpful.
