Not quite what I was expecting.
Ah yes, now we’re full swing into the manga. This episode introduced 4 new characters. And if I didn’t know any better, going by the OP I would’ve thought this was a filler arc. Also, the OP didn’t impress me like the last one, the song at any rate wasn’t half as good. The ED was nice though.
Going back on topic, we see Scar vs the Mr. Mosquito from Soul Eater Silver Alchemist, who was disposed off rather quick for all his high talk. Well, the shorter they are, the quicker they fall. Later on he finds a small girl who’s from the Eastern Kingdom of Xing. This little alchemist’s name is May Chang, who proceeds to heal Scar after his brief encounter with the Silver Alchemist. Before changing the scene, she mentions that she wants to meet the famous Edward Elric (to learn about the Philosopher’s Stone). Now she’s gonna tag along Scar to Central, or at least until she finds Edward.
Cut to Lisa Hawkeye who has an encounter with Barry the Chopper while coming back from some grocery shopping. After overpowering him rather quickly, Roy Mustang interrogates him for info about experiments performed at Lab 5. Nothing was revealed that we didn’t know about already.
Final cut to Ed and Al who come to visit Winry in that Automail-town she took apprenticeship in. While she’s out to get them spare parts, the brothers encounter Ling Yao, also from Xing, and his two bodyguards. After expressing interest in the Philosopher’s Stone and a failed attempt at getting any info out of Ed, Ling’s bodyguards attack the brothers, to no avail of course.
Later on they come to terms after Ling explains his plight, to offer the king of Xing immortality so his clan gets the favour and can thus become the heir to the throne. While not content with the reasons, Ed eventually allows them to come to Central once Winry is done with their repairs.
A rather dull episode as none of the new characters seemed interesting. May Chang is an annoying brat who wants to get whatever she wants, and Ling Yao seems like a pompous brat who also wants to get whatever he desires. While we may see more back story on both of them, neither character excited me anyway whatsoever. Might as well be a filler arc.
Hopefully time will prove me wrong. The only good thing about this episode was the revelation that Al can now perform alchemy without the transmutation circle as well, thus lowering Eds ego a bit. And with that…
If anyone is confused of the fight scene in the beginning, the “Menga” explains it all…it starts with the silver alchemist saying “If you pass GO, do not collect $200. Go directly to jail”. Obviously, silver alchemist didn’t know Scar plays by his own rules; which in turn, started this random fight scene.
“it starts with the silver alchemist saying ‘If you pass GO, do not collect $200. Go directly to jail'”
Oh wow lololol! Man I wish they had that in the anime. A genuinely funny moment and they don’t show it 😦
