I don’t know whether the episode name was a pun or an actual hint.
In any case, the episode begins with Maria Ross being interrogated for Major Hughes’ murder. The charges levied against her aren’t even verified properly when she was already named as Major Hughes’ murderer in the evening paper.
So what next? Barry the Chopper breaks out Lieutenant Ross from jail and Roy Mustangs toasts her. Yes, by the time Mustang was done with her, Ross was crispier than crisps (harhar!). From the way things looked, it seemed pretty clear that Barry did everything on Mustang’s order, even though this was never clear in the episode.
Secondly, did Mustang really kill Ross? Avenging his best friend’s murder seem right up his alley, but executing Ross without so much as a question seems a bit odd. Chances are she’s still alive, even though the body was positively identified by the coroner. If not, damn you Roy Mustang, you cold-hearted bastard!
After that, Lisa Hawkeye goes on a leave, and Major Armstrong drags Edward to Resembool for his “automail repairs” leaving Alphonse and Winry behind in Central.
This whole episode reeks of a big conspiracy, and Roy Mustang is definitely behind it all. Other highlights of the show was near the beginning where Winry expresses her fear over the safety of the Elric brothers. I love these moments in Brotherhood, they are not melodramatic and really convey the feelings of the characters. All said and done, this was a brilliant episode. A lot of questions were raised, not least of which was who is Number 66 if Barry the Chopper is still with the Homunculus? And did Mustang really kill Ross? And finally, why the hell has Armstrong dragged Edward away from Central?!
Hopefully we get our answers next week, till then…
