The sigh of deculture Suzumiya Haruhi.
I honestly don’t know whether it was due to being burnt by the Endless Eight arc or that KyoAni did something wrong here, but this episode felt quite boring. Not fun. The exact opposite of what Haruhi used to be. You know, back in 2006. Things have really gone down the drain.
Or perhaps I’m being too melancholic as I was expecting something big after the Endless Eight.
Anyways, after summer vacations are (finally) over, we start the episode with the sports day. The SOS Brigade won the Relay race, thanks to Nagato’s superhuman speed. Nothing too exciting here, we, and by the looks of things, the rest of the school is used to Nagato’s absurdities.
Next comes the annual Cultural Festival. Haruhi decides to make a movie and then screen it, regardless of how busy the others are with their respective class’ events. At first I thought this was the movie we saw in the first episode of the first season, but there were no guns involved. The rest of the episode is pretty much Haruhi dragging Asahina and Kyon to gather up equipment.
I just felt nothing inspirational or new here. I mean, haven’t we already seen Haruhi exploiting Asahina to get stuff from others one too many times already? And even Kyon’s inner commentary on their situation weren’t as witty. Haruhi was doing her usual boss everyone around thing. Koizumi was smiling as usual and Nagato was being her real self, a robot.
So yeah, deculture sighs at what this once epic show has become. A mere shadow of it’s former self. And with that…
