I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
Buccaneer requests Lin to defend the main gate as a final favour, for attacking King Bradley. Lin is already pissed at what King Bradley managed to do, and after throwing him off in the canal below, he takes the help of Greed and goes nuts on the attacking Central soldiers. Meanwhile we see Ed, Al and Izumi come face to face with the original Homunculus, aka Father, who’s absorbing Hohenheim. As four of the five human sacrifices are assembled, the gold toothed doctor fatally wounds Hawkeye to make Mustang perform a human transmutation, thereby becoming the fifth human sacrifice for Father. Mustang obviously agrees.
The first half of the episode deals with Lin & Greed and his agreement to defend the main gate. As he goes on a killing spree, the half-way break comes in, showing Buccaneer and then Riza Hawkeye’s character profiles. I guessed that she was either gonna get killed, something else equally painful.
Right on the money, the gold toothed doctor gets her mortally wounded, forcing Mustang to perform a human transmutation. I’ll be honest, while I didn’t see this coming, the whole situation made no impact at all. This just felt like one of those irritating times where the bad guys do something really bad to the good guys, forcing them to do something bad or play directly into the hands of the bad guys. I’ve seen this shit happen way too many times in movies/ books/ animes/ games for that scene to hold any meaningful value.
I guess I was just disappointed, especially after the kickass episodes we’ve been getting recently, this one was just weaksauce. Now I’m getting the feeling that Bones will somehow manage to fuck up the ending of yet another show (just like the original FMA + movies, Wolf’s Rain, Soul Eater, etc.) Beyond that, I hope that Hiromu Arakawa (the mangaka) makes a nice enough ending so that everything comes to a satisfactory close in the next 2 episodes. And by satisfactory, I mean that King Bradley fucking dies and Father implodes; Ed hooks up with Winry and both him and Al get their bodies back and live with Hohenheim; Mustang and Hawkeye get married and all the other good guys that I’m forgetting/ don’t care about, live happily ever after. Is that too much to ask Bones?
